Waterloo native, triplet enters religious life

Lizzy SchmittWATERLOO — Lizzy Schmitt, daughter of Steve and Jana Schmitt, and triplet sister of Lauren and Michael entered the Sisters of Life on Sept. 5, 2015, accompanied by eight other young women, including two of her college classmates.

The Schmitt triplets grew up at Sacred Heart Parish in Waterloo, graduating elementary school in 2006, and then from Columbus High School in 2010. Lizzy went on to graduate from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Sisters of Life is a contemplative/ active religious community of women founded in 1991 by Cardinal John O’Connor in New York. The sisters take the three traditional vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and are consecrated under a special, fourth vow to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life. They primarily work with women in crisis pregnancies, engage in college evangelization and run a retreat center. The Sisters have several missions in New York, in Toronto and in Denver, Colorado.

Lizzy will live in the Bronx for her postulant year and then in Suffern, New York, for the following two years.
