The Witness Publishing Co. is responsible for the production of the official Archdiocesan publication. It features local news and national and international news from Catholic News Service in Washington, D.C.

Established in 1920, the Witness is published weekly except Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, July 4, the last week in July and the first week in August. The publication is dated Sunday and is received by subscribers the previous Friday or Saturday.

Catholic Men's Fellowship

Pilgrimage

11 Days Alpine Europe Pilgrimage including “The Passion Play of Oberammergau.”

One Day Service Opportunity: Convivium Urban Farmstead in Dubuque, IA

2-6 Volunteers from the Dubuque area are needed on June 1st. Volunteers will learn about Convivium’s Mission of creating community around food — growing, preparing, preserving, and enjoying food, all while assisting with various garden tasks. Cost: Volunteers are asked to contribute $30 to help cover food and other costs. There will be some shared reflection after service is given. Please note: overnight accommodations are not provided; commuters only. This may be a great opportunity for a family to serve together for a day. Due Date to apply is May 3.

Rescue Mission & New Hope Catholic Worker Farm, Dubuque, IA

2-4 Volunteers are needed June 2-8. Volunteers will assist with gardening, service to the poor, creation care, justice, reflection and community building at the New Hope Catholic Worker Farm part of the day. The rest of the day at the Dubuque Rescue Mission service includes participating in positive solutions to homelessness. Cost: Volunteers are asked to contribute $115/person to help cover food, housing and other costs.  Due Date to apply is May 5.

 

Franciscan Common Venture – a volunteer program sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Dubuque, Iowa, provides the opportunity for persons age 20+ to contribute their time, commitment and talent in service among people who are poor. There are multiple service opportunities from work crews doing minor repairs and cleaning to helping hand harvest corn for use in Native American ceremonies. Long-term service is also available. RCIA

It is time to start up the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes in the Queen of Saints Cluster. The RCIA is intended for:

-Non-Catholics who are married or engaged to a Catholic and wish to convert or just learn more about the Catholic faith.
-Those who have never been baptized or have a church to call their own.
-Baptized Catholic adults who have not yet received Holy Communion or Confirmation.
-Catholics who have been inactive in the Church, but desire to reconnect.
