Father Mark Murphy

Hello to the five parishes of Holy Rosary Cluster! I am Father Mark Murphy, and I’m excited to begin my assignment here on July 12. I am originally from Marion, Iowa near Cedar Rapids. I am the youngest of the three children of Mary and the late Michael Murphy. My older sister and mother live in Marion while my brother and his family live in Ankeny, Iowa. I attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Marion and then graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids in 1998. After high school I attended Iowa State University, graduating with an engineering degree. It was at Iowa State where I first started to think about the priesthood. However, after I graduated from college, I served in The United States Navy for five years. After my time in the Navy, my desire to serve Jesus and the Church as a priest had powerfully returned. I applied for and was accepted as a seminarian for our Archdiocese in the fall of 2008. I studied at Loras College in Dubuque for two years, and then I studied four years at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. I was ordained a priest on June 28, 2014, by our Archbishop. My first two years as a priest were at Resurrection Catholic Church in Dubuque. God has greatly blessed me during my time in seminary and even more so as a priest. I’m living the dream! I look forward to continuing the dream together in the coming weeks, months, and years!

In Christ,

Fr. Mark Murphy
